Naasville Bluegrass Festival 1996

High On Grass

Banjo: Lars-Ake Hedman, Bass: Ulf Hedman, Guitar: Lennart Martinsson, Fiddle: Rune Kjall.

Next band out on this nice summer evening was "High On Grass" who are quite sober people despite their name. They appeared in their sharp outfit as you can see on the picture. I was busy taking pictures so I didn't hear if they played "Orange Blossom Special" which is usually Rune's speciality. As you may have guessed, the banjo and bass-player are brothers. They are standing on the grass-field where the festival was held during the saturday. The band comes from Goteborg just about 20 km from Naas.

B' Nice Boys

Mandolin: Mats Aspero, Banjo: Gary Johanson, Guitar, Vocals: Hans Wahlstedt, Bass: Anders Backberg, Resophonic guitar: Jan Ekman.

"High On Grass" was followed by the "B' Nice Boys" who are perhaps the best swedish bluegrass-band, although I'm sure you can have many a good argument about that. The swedish nights are light as you can see on this picture that was taken at around 9.00 at night. In the background is the lake that surrounds the festival area. No problem to cool off with a swim between picking. The name of the band comes from the story that goes that Bill Monroe used to say "B' Nice Boys" to his band before a performance.
