New City CowFreaks

Thomas Nitschke - Bass, Karsten Holm - Vocals, Bruno Gehrig- Drums, Flemming Colind - Banjo, Jesper Rubner - Mandolin, Morten Steensig - Guitar.
New City Cowfreaks from Denmark have appeared in Naas a number of years and become favourites among many in the audience. They are quite unorthodox as a Bluegrass band, as you can see from the picture. For example drums which is unheard of in the old-style Bluegrass.

So what kind of music is this? Perhaps we can call it Punk-Bluegrass or Rock-Bluegrass. They mix traditional songs like Roll In My Sweet Babies Arms with hard-rock pieces like Smoke On The Water. Some of them like Flemming and Jesper play the regular Bluegrass when they don't dress up in crazy outfits (we missed Carstens blinking horns from last year). Flemming also plays with Train 45. And I have seen Jesper play a breathtaking Rawhide on the mandolin in a traditional band at another festival. These guys can rock!
