Beppe Gambetta

Italian Flatpicker Beppe Gambetta

I found out that the italian guitarplayer Beppe Gambetta was touring North Carolina at the moment. He was scheduled to have a guitar-workshop in Wilmington. I packed the car full of kids and went down to Wilmington. Since the kids don't care much about guitarplaying, we saw the state aquarium in Wilmington. We also drove over the river Cape Fear, known from the movie. After all this I sent the family back to Goldsboro and I stayed for the workshop.

Philippo Gambetta

It was a good turnout. The room was full of spectators. Beppe taught some of his tricks and also played some songs. He also brought his son Philippo Clarence to the stage (guitar-freaks now recognice that Beppe named his son after the late great Clarence White, I guess that's better than naming him Arthel or Doc - sorry for the inside joke).

Philippo played Accordeon, Clarinet and spoons, but not the guitar.

Beppe had been to Naas in 1996, you can find pictures from that at other places on this site. I asked him if he remembered that. He did and he said he would be happy to come back.

I found out that Beppe had a concert in Winston-Salem the next day. We have friends in Winston-Salem, so I managed to convince the family that this was a great opportunity to visit them.

Because of that I managed to catch Beppe the next day at the Fiddle and Bow Society in Winston-Salem. Beppe played for an enthusiastic crowd at a coffee-shop.
