The trip to NC

Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys
The Web-master went to North Carolina in the fall of
1998. Bluegrass-fans probably already knows that NC is somewhat of a
Bluegrass-center. The term "Bluegrass" has its origin from Kentucky
since that's where Bill Monroe came from and he named his band the Bluegrass
boys. So, some may say that Kentucky is the Bluegrass-state, but many, many
of the great Bluegrass-musicians come from North Carolina. For example Doc
Watson, Earl Scruggs, Del McCoury and many more.
I have gathered some pictures here from festivals and concerts that we
managed to squeeze into our two weeks in NC. The whole family went, me, my
wife and our three girls. We first went to the Butterwood festival, the
first weekend of october. It was held on a private farm way out in the country.
Close to the border to Virginia in the northeast of NC. We saw some
of the best bands you can ever see in Bluegrass. For example Dr. Ralph Stanley
and the Clinch Mountain Boys and the Osborne Brothers.
After Butterwood we decided to see the Mountains. We came to Asheville, saw
the Bluegrass Center and headed on on a trip along the Blueridge
Parkway. That is a very scenic road that winds through the Blueridge
Mountains, mentioned in many Bluegrass songs. Like in Blueridge Mountain
Blues.
We also travelled to Wilmington and saw the state aquarium. It just happened
that Beppe Gambetta, the super Flatpicker from Italy held a workshop
in Wilmington. So, I managed to see him and later on I also caught him in
Winston-Salem where he had a concert.
